Listed in this post are a few useful links that will aid you in your understanding towards press freedom in Malaysia:

This is a website founded by four journalists who are committed to ensuring press freedom worldwide. Besides this, they are also devoted to fighting cyber censorship, and supporting and protecting journalists. They have a section specifically for Malaysia, and listed there are probably censored news in the country.

Here is a news article from Yahoo! News taken from Malaysiakini.com highlighting the fact that the state of press freedom in Malaysia has hit an all-time low, ranking 145 in the charts. Previously it was ranked at 122 for both 2012 and 2011. 


Freedom House is an independent watchdog organisation dedicated to the expansion of freedom around the world. Here is an article reporting on the state of press freedom in the country for year 2012. Malaysia has a press freedom score of 63. 


Here is another article reporting on the same topic for year 2013. This year has a slight improvement, scoring 64 for press freedom.

In this article it is reported that Malaysiakini welcomed the Court of Appeal's decision in rejecting the government's appeal against the High Court ruling that publishing a newspaper is a right, not a privilege.
